Golf in Roscommon
Roscommon golf club has been host to great golf in the west of Ireland for people from the entire Island and beyond for in excess on one hundred years. The Roscommon golf club was founded in 1904 and has been the focal point of golf in Roscommon ever since. The course is adjacent to the Mote Park Estate and this adds real character and history to this modern, well maintained naturally rolling course. The implementation of the new nine hole course was managed very effectively and resulted in an enjoyably demanding eighteen hole course. This differs greatly from mistakes in courses elsewhere where improper expansion resulted in two distinctly separate nine hole courses. The acquisition of adjoining land in the early 1990 and early plantation in advance of expansion has given rise to the mature setting complemented by the old ash, sycamore, beach and white thorn trees. The new club house was built in 1995 to replace the old club house which was destroyed by fire in the previous year. The new bar is presented to a very high standard and the restaurant offers views of the first and last holes. The eighteen sand feature greens are meticulously kept.
This parkland course offers tricky par 3s and long par 4s with feature holes thirteenth par 3 (water) , ninth par 3 (water) and par 4 at club house frontage finishing this excellent 7000 yard course.
The course at Roscommon golf club which was designed by Eddie Connaughton offers a complex and enjoyable game. Evidence of the standard of Roscommon golf can be seen by the fact that Roscommon golf club has produced seven junior internationalists and three senior internationalists in the past two decades.
The golf is excellent, the food is extremely good, prices are reasonable and the course is open almost year round.
